Indiana Pacers point guard George Hill ripped his teammates and said that the team is “giving this season away” with their recent struggles.

George Hill has been a pleasant surprise for the Indiana Pacers this season, but he is getting extremely frustrated with the teams lack of success down the stretch of the season. Just a couple of weeks ago the Pacers went on a seven-game winning streak, but now they have backed that up by losing eight out of their last ten games.

More from Indiana Pacers

Indiana is currently sitting at 32-42 on the season and is 10th place in the Eastern Conference playoff chase. They are one and a half games behind the Brooklyn Nets, who they lost to last night by a final score of 111-106. Following the game, Hill laid into his team and said that they were giving their season away with their poor play.

“I feel like we’re giving the season away, one game at a time,” Hill said. “We’ve got to forget about it now, focus on tomorrow, bring it tomorrow and try to get a win tomorrow. You’ve just got to bring it more, and take away the loss and how bad it feels.”

Tonight is just as big of a game for the Pacers, as the Boston Celtics are a full game ahead of the Pacers in ninth place. If the Pacers win, they would not only even up the Celtics, but would also take home the tiebreaker for the remainder of the season which would be key for Indiana. Unfortunately, by losing to the Nets last night they gave Brooklyn the tiebreaker against them.

Nobody can put the Pacers’ losing issues on Hill, as he been the only consistent presence for Indiana over the past ten games. Hill has played in 35 total games this year for the Pacers, and has averaged 16.2 points, 4.6 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. He has upped those averages to 19.4 points, 4.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game in the month of March.

Needless to say, Indiana cannot afford to remain in the losing funk that they are currently in. They have to find a way to snap out of it tonight and come up with a huge win. There are only eight games remaining on their schedule, and each one is critical.

Perhaps these words from Hill can stir up the Pacers and motivate them in the right way. Something needs to happen, as the Pacers have looked dead at the start of games and have dug themselves big holes to get out of. That has to change immediately, and it has to start tonight in a must-win game against the Celtics.
