Stephen Amell to play Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

Arrow star Stephen Amell is set to play the hockey stick wielding vigilante Casey Jones in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

We have all seen Stephen Amell do battle with villains like R’as al Ghul and Slade Wilson in the CW Original Series Arrow, but it is his next hero-style role that has everyone buzzing about this morning.

According to Variety, the thirty three year old Canadian actor will be grabbing the nearest hockey stick and taking on the likes of the Foot Clan, and possibly even Rock Steady and Bebop sometime real soon.

The entertainment site is reporting that Amell will be playing Casey Jones in the upcoming film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

Being entirely honest with you, if you have ever watched an episode of Arrow; especially later on in the series when the fight scenes become much more intense, you know that the casting in this role is quite perfect.

Amell oozes charm and has a real knack for building on-screen chemistry with his co-stars, and at the same time is in tremendous physical shape and can absolutely hand someone their behind – gift wrapped and all – should the situation call for it.

According to Variety, the Arrow star tested against six other actors over the course of the weekend, but his on-screen chemistry with Megan Fox is what led to Amell being awarded the role. We do believe that Variety may have just given at least one plot point from the new film away.

The way they worded the previous statement would lead one to believe that Paramount Pictures is going with the story in which Casey Jones becomes the love interest for April O’Neil.

At this particular point, I can’t imagine these two face to face in a romantic scene (actors not the characters); however, that may change once filming kicks into high gear and we get a real look at some of the footage from the film.

The role of Casey Jones was originally played on the big screen by actor Elias Koteas in 1990 in the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles feature film.

We don’t know about you, but we are rather pleased with the casting of Stephen Amell as Casey Jones. He has proven time and time again that he has the physicality and quick wit to take on a role like this one, so it makes sense that the studio saw him as the obvious choice.

The studio has done a good job at this point of keeping the plot line of the new film under lock and key. Hopefully, once filming begins on the movie we will have a little more understanding as to where our favorite Heroes in a Half Shell will be headed in the new story.

Unfortunately, we may have to wait a little bit before this really kicks up.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is scheduled to crash into theaters on June 3, 2016.
