Oklahoma City Thunder vs San Antonio Spurs

It’s always nice to see these two squads go at each other come playoff time. In the 2012 Western Conference Finals, the Thunder won the series 4-2. Last year in the Conference Finals the Spurs won the series 4-2.

The way both teams are set up in the playoff draw it’s highly unlikely they will face each other this year, but one can hope.

However with the 2014 MVP Kevin Durant sidelined for the rest of the season for the Thunder (foot injury) and Serge Ibaka’s status uncertain moving forward (knee), I’m not sure they would have much of a chance beating the defending champion Spurs in a seven-game series with two of their three best players not playing. The fun in all of this would be to watch the most dynamic player in the league in MVP candidate Russell Westbrook try to put this Thunder team on his back and exact some payback against the Spurs.

xtWe know Westbrook will try his darndest but whether that will be enough to win would be all the more absorbing.

Fun fact, the last years in the Western Conference, the champion has either been the Thunder or the Spurs. The Thunder lost to the Heat in 2012, while the Spurs lost to the heat in 2013 before winning it all in 2014. Could the Thunder reclaim the throne, even with Durant sidelined?
