5. Boston Red Sox

There’s no question about it. The Boston Red Sox have perfected the “big market retool.”

Just as they did turning around the disastrous 2012 season into a championship campaign of 2013, they seem to be doing again now.

Top Prospects:

  1. Blake Swihart, C (17)
  2. Henry Owens, LHP (44)
  3. Rusney Castillo, OF (21)
  4. Eduardo Rodriguez, LHP (59)
  5. Manuel Margot, OF (72)
  6. Brian Johnson, LHP (82)
  7. Rafael Devers, 3B (99)
  8. Yoan Moncada, 2B/OF
  9. Matt Barnes, RHP
  10. Devon Marrero, SS

Once the season is lost, Boston looks to pounce by trading away the dead weight and acquiring fresh talent.

Oh yeah, and they’ve also brought in a couple of Cubans named Yoan Moncada and Rusney Castillo. Moncada became a household name this past winter, while Castillo showed flashes of brilliance late last season.

In the eyes of the brightest baseball minds, Boston is equipped with the deepest talent pool across all levels.

As far as high-end talent is concerned, catching prospect Blake Swihart is the undoubted champ of prospects at his position right now.

Henry Owens, Eduardo Rodriguez and Brian Johnson all enjoyed great years in Double-A in 2014. Boston’s hope is these are the men who’ll eventually replace a very shaky starting staff at the big league level.

Not only is this trio of pitchers dripping with talent, they’re also all lefties.
