Like any other Bostonian, the events of the Marathon had a very marked impact on his life. Because of this, he now plans to produce the film Patriots’ Day, a docudrama which will tell the story of the manhunt for Dxhokhar Tsarnaev. Working in conjunction with CBS films, as well as Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark, the film will be based on the account of Ed Davis.
Davis was the Boston Police Commissioner at the time of the bombing and the subsequent manhunt for Tsarnaev.
“There’s nothing more compelling than a real story populated by real heroes,” said CBS Films president Terry Press. “The team that we have assembled for this project is determined to give audiences a very personal look at what occurred during the days when the eyes of the world were on the city of Boston and how a group of contemporary patriots faced this crisis.”
Regardless of what you think about him making a movie about a national tragedy, it did have a huge affect on his hometown and his beloved Boston. Also, with him making this film, it only means that he might not make another Transformers film. Well, at least not for a while.
The film will be written by Mark Charman, whose recent screenwriting credits include the upcoming Spielberg flick Bridge of Spies, starring Tom Hanks. That film is also being co-written by the Coen Brothers and is slated for a release in October 16th of this year.
Fresh off of his dramatic portrayal in the film The Gambler, Wahlberg is also slated to appear in the upcoming sequel to Ted, premiering June 26th.
