There are some surprisingly simple items on Bubba Watson’s menu for the Masters champions dinner, but Waffle House will not be one of them.

Known for being a trendsetter on the PGA Tour, Bubba Watson has been the hot topic of discussion regarding the famed Masters champions dinner. At the dinner, the reigning champion is given the honor of choosing the menu for the evening. Players are allowed to order off of the menu, but it is still interesting to see what some of the interesting choices have been.

There were rumblings that Waffle House, one of Watson’s favorite dining establishments, would make an appearance on the menu. Watson shut down that notion, however, saying that Waffle House would not be allowed because it is a brand name and the club forbids commercialization.

Watson’s decision to make a late-night stop at an Augusta Waffle House following winning his second green jacket last year, in which he famously left a $148 tip, is what sparked the discussion of what Watson would be serving at the dinner. In 2013, following his first Masters win, Watson’s menu was rather bland and featured grilled chicken as the main course, along with caesar salad, corn, potatoes, mac and cheese and confetti cake. Watson appears to be sticking to the same menu this year, something he is doing as a tribute to his mom.

Although on the surface this appears to be a trivial decision, it could be one that saves Watson some grief on tour. Apparently Watson’s unconventional methods have rubbed some pros the wrong way. Whether it is driven by his pink drivers, self-produced rap music videos or his affinity for not-so-fine dining, a recent poll of PGA golfers revealed that Watson is the least likely player on tour who they would help in a parking lot scuffle.

Watson addressed the results, pledging that he must ‘improve as a man’ going forward. He is not known for conforming to norms and has built a reputation a somewhat controversial figure on the extremely-professional PGA Tour, but Watson clearly sees now that some of his antics must go away.

While his move to serve a surprisingly plain dinner once again, it could also be a sign that Watson is growing up after a controversial start to his career. I for one hope he sticks to his unconventional ways. It is what has taken him this far, and I do not expect the two-time Masters champion to change now.
