5 NFL teams that must have an excellent draft
By Andrew Garda
Is Nick Foles the guy? Can the offensive line be improved? Can the team get more wide receiver help?
These are the questions facing the St. Louis Rams and fourth year head coach Jeff Fisher as they approach the 2015 NFL Draft.
The Rams are in a division which is a very tough one, but while everyone seems to have improved at some point, St. Louis is stuck treading water. They continually struggle with various positions no matter what.
Part of that was because quarterback Sam Bradford struggled to stay healthy. They shipped him off to the Philadelphia Eagles in return for Foles and a fourth round draft pick, so with a little luck the position will be healthier and therefore more stable than it has been for years.
Of course, it would help if they could protect their quarterback. Pro Football Focus had the Rams offensive line ranked as No. 31 overall in the NFL last season and first pick Greg Robinson struggled quite a bit. As a guy who was better as a run blocker than a pass-blocker coming out of college, that’s no particular shock but the team needs him to step up this year.
Robinson looked worse than maybe he might have played otherwise as the rest of the offensive line pretty much collapsed around him.
The Rams have a lot of different needs to address here in the draft and little room for error. On top of being in a very good division, they are in the tougher of the two conferences and the chances of a Wild Card berth are slim.
They have to improve and to do that, they need to have a well-managed and big-time draft which hits far more than it misses.
Otherwise Los Angeles may not love them anymore.
