The Masters: Sergio Garcia chips in on 14 (Video)
Sergio Garcia hit a beautiful chip-in on the 14th hole at The Masters on Thursday.
Spain’s Sergio Garcia is one of the best golfers all time to have not won a PGA Tour major. The 35-year-old is now trying to make it his year at the Masters. Sergio is played well in the opening round Thursday and his best shot came on the fourteenth hole.
After a birdie on the par five 13th hole, Sergio took to the 14th to look for another birdie. After he overshot his approach, Garcia was scrambling to try and at least go up and down for a par. Well, things went a little differently for Garcia after he chipped the shot onto the green and then it rolled right into the hole after hitting the pin.
The ball probably would’ve been at least 10 feet past the hole if it didn’t hit the pin, but Sergio put it right on target in order to get his fifth birdie of the day, which took him to 4-under par.
After making a tough par on the 18th hole following a great bunker shot, Sergio Garcia finished the first round with a 4-under 68, tied for sixth with Russell Henley going into Friday.
Garcia missed the cut in 2014, but has definitely rebounded and will be looking for a good finish like he did in the two prior years. Garcia shot a 66 in the first round in 2013, but fell down the leaderboard with a 76 in the second round. If he can hold on tomorrow, he’ll be putting himself in great position to contend and possibly win his first major tournament.
