Legendary pro wrestling broadcaster Jim Ross recently revealed that he came pretty close to working for Lucha Underground

It’s pretty much a known fact that  the voice of legendary broadcaster Jim Ross makes every professional wrestling event that much better. Well, we recently learned that he nearly loaned his voice to one of the best upstart professional wrestling organizations in the world right now, Lucha Underground.

In the most recent update to his blog over at JRSBarBQ.com, Ross went into a bit of detail on how he nearly struck a deal to work their season finale show.

"“I had a chance to do some work with Lucha Underground as they prepare for their season finale taping in a little over a week that will air in August but we couldn’t make the date work. I’m a fan of their product, except the intergender stuff which doesn’t suspend my disbelief, and would have enjoyed doing a project with them but it wasn’t in the cards this time around. I wish them the best of luck nonetheless during these apparent, crunch times for their brand. I am still of the belief that their back stage content is the best in he genre.”"

While it’s certainly disappointing that the two sides weren’t able to come to an agreement, that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t be able to some time in the near future. Given the success of their first year in existence, it’s safe to say that Lucha Underground is not going anywhere, anytime soon, and that’s a good thing for those of us that like alternatives to the WWE product.

Since splitting with WWE, Ross has done some work with various projects. Most recently, he partnered up with Jeff Jarrett’s GFW and New Japan Pro Wrestling to broadcast the American version of Wrestle Kingdom 9, which was a rousing success. It should also be noted that he worked that show with Matt Striker, who is one of the current voices at the announce table for Lucha Underground, along with Vampiro.

Again, hopefully these two sides can revisit this relationship some time down the road, because for as exciting as that Lucha Underground product is right now, Jim Ross calling the action would most certainly make it that much greater.
