Evan Turner: Andre Iguodala Jr. could beat LeBron Jr. one-on-one
The Boston Celtics forward claimed that the son of Andre Iguodala would beat the son of LeBron James one-on-one at basketball.
In an attempt to needlessly stir up trouble between the Cavaliers and the Warriors, Boston Celtics forward Evan Turner called out LeBron James’ son following last night’s 117-78 Celtics win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
From Complex:
"“I was talking to Iman Shumpert because we went to middle school together,” Turner said later. “And then LeBron came over to me because I’m [a former Ohio State] Buckeye or whatever, and I told him I know a little guy who can beat his young guy. He asked me who and I said Andre Iguodala Jr…We just laughed about that.”"
Sure, maybe you laughed about it, Evan, but LeBron went straight home and told his son about your comment, immediately set up an Imagine Dragons playlist and got the kid working on his lunges. That’s the mark of a champion, Evan. That and the sweet taste of Sprite soda.
That’s a tall order for Iggy the Sequel. Prince James is already garnering offers for college scholarships off the back of his highlights.
The real question is whether or not Evan Turner could beat either LeBron Jr. or Iggy Jr. A quick breakdown of the stats this season shows that Turner is averaging 9.5 points, 5.4 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game. Not enough considering that Turner plays 27 minutes a game.
Now read this quote from LeBron Jr.’s AAU coach.
From TMZ:
"“We haven’t lost a game yet since Bronny joined the team in mid-December,” coach Adrian Sparks tells TMZ Sports.“He’s awesome. He played amazing. He averaged double digits. Bronny’s just an all around good kid.”"
Just looking at the highlights, Bronny must be at least pushing double digits for assists as well. On top of that, he’s splashing home threes and generally commanding the court. There isn’t much to go on for Iguodala’s son except for Turner’s testimonial, but if Iggy the Younger is even better than that, then I don’t know if Evan Turner stands a chance.
This might be a move to work up tensions between the Cavaliers and the Warriors, two highly possible opponents for this summer’s NBA Finals. Iguodala and James would likely see each other on the court often playing the “three,” and a testy matchup between the two would help produce an even more exciting series.
And who knows, perhaps the loser’s son will seek basketball revenge.
