Robinson Cano is one of the best players in all of baseball, but a baserunning error made him feel like “the dumbest guy in the game”.

As one of baseball’s brightest stars, Seattle Mariners‘ second baseman Robinson Cano knows what it takes to be successful at the major league level. It takes hard work, dedication, some long practice days and a ‘never give up’ attitude.

It also takes a decent amount of knowing what you’re doing at all times.

What do I mean by this? Things such as knowing the strike count, knowing how many men are on base and knowing how many outs there are. It’s just about being aware of the game surrounding you so you don’t get lost in what you’re doing.

On Wednesday evening, however, Cano got lost in the game.

As the count on the batter was 3-1, with men on second and third base, Cano watched ball four sail out of the strike zone and started to trot home. It wasn’t until the Dodgers‘ pitcher made a move at him that he realized the bases weren’t loaded and sprinted back to third, being tagged out by Juan Uribe before he could reach the base.

After the game, Cano was quite embarrassed about the bone-headed mistake.

You heard it here. This was the dumbest thing Cano has ever done.
