Top 10 most disappointing things during the 2015 NBA season
3. The bottom half of the East
The Eastern Conference has been absolutely atrocious this season. Anytime a team that is five games under .500 and still has a shot at making the playoffs, something is definitely wrong with that picture. The East has been quite top heavy for the past couple of years. Block buster deals and super stars teaming up are to blame for that. This year, the impact of such decisions by players and teams are starting to be felt by the bottom half of the East.
The East has been so miserable this year that a Paul George-less Pacers team might be sneaking into the playoffs. The Milwaukee Bucks, who are just one game over .500, are a six seed. And the Dallas Mavericks, who are a seven seed in the West, have a good enough record to be the 3 seed in the East.
The future does look bright though. Jabari Parker should be coming back next year for the Bucks, so they could be better than ever. The Pacers finally have Paul George back, and the Celtics have enough young talent to share. So this down period might be shorter than expected.
But this year the East has been the worst they have been in recent memory. If the NBA playoffs would be decided purely off of record, taking the best 16 teams from the NBA rather than the best 8 from each conference, 11 Western conference teams would make it in. This horrible stat speaks to just how awful it was to watch more than half the teams this year. How tanking by the Knicks and Sixers was near impossible because of how bad the competition was. And just how superior the Western conference has been recently. Nonetheless, whoever comes out of the East has as good a chance of anyone in the West come playoff time.
