Alex Cobb teaches Gumby how to pitch (Video)
Rays starter Alex Cobb got to teach his childhood hero ‘Gumby’ how to pitch and it went just as expected.
Growing up, everyone has a childhood hero. Probably not too many people had Gumby as their childhood hero.
For Rays pitcher Alex Cobb, Gumby was indeed his favorite growing up.
As part of an upcoming promotional giveaway, the Rays will be giving out Alex Cobb Gumbys to the fans in attendance on Saturday.
To prepare for the big giveaway, Cobb got to teach his hero a little bit about his profession and tried to show Gumby how to throw a pitch.
A character like Gumby has to pitch out of the stretch right?
It went about as expected too, as Gumby struggled to even balance himself in his costume.

Cobb began to grow irate with Gumby not being able to do a leg kick and eventually gave up and handed his glove to the clay figure and told Gumby to figure it out on its own.
Sometimes meeting a hero doesn’t turn out to be everything one would expect. Unfortunately for Cobb, he found out that his hero can’t throw a baseball.
The good news is that Gumby does whatever it is that he does well and on Saturday, all fans in attendance will get a piece of Gumby to take home and play with when they visit Tropicana field.
Hopefully Gumby doesn’t have to come in out of the bullpen for the Rays.
