After a controversial Game 1, the Montreal Canadiens defenseman showed off some great skill in Game 2.

Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban became the story of the early NHL playoffs following his brutal slash of Ottawa Senators winger Mark Stone, which got Subban kicked out of Game 1 of the series.

That controversy may have overshadowed the fact that Subban is an extremely talented player. Subban showed off that talent in Game 2 of the series on Friday with an absolute rocket of a goal, via Stephanie Vail on Twitter.

The puck bounces perfectly to Subban, allowing him to wind up for the shot, but he still hits it with incredible velocity. Andrew Hammond, one of the hottest goalies in the NHL entering the postseason, simply had no chance.

Subban’s goal put Montreal up 2-1 with 4:30 remaining in the second period. The Canadiens would win on an Alex Galchenyuk goal in overtime to take a 2-0 series lead.

The 25-year-old defenseman has shown that sort of goal-scoring ability throughout his career. He scored a career-high 15 goals in the regular season and found the back of the net four times in Montreal’s classic playoff series against the Boston Bruins last year.

Subban is the type of talent that can take over a playoff series and his performance in Game 2 indicates he may already be doing so. That’s not good news for the Senators. who needed to take advantage of Subban’s absence in Game 1.
