Byron Scott

Sometimes your dream job comes along and you accept it so quickly, you don’t stop it to think that maybe it is the wrong time to take the job. I imagine this situation is close to reality for Los Angeles Lakers head coach Byron Scott, who oversaw the worst season in the franchises storied history since they moved to Los Angeles – a franchise he helped to three NBA championships as a player.

The year seemed to end for the Lakers before it could even begin. Los Angeles started the year losing nine of their first ten games and never recovered. They lost Kobe Bryant to a torn rotator cuff and resident SWAG master Nick Young never got back on track after a sprained ankle. The Lakers would be in full tank mode for the rest of the season to secure a top 5 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Tanking, whether the Lakers want to admit it or not, may have played into some of the more questionable decisions Scott made during the season. Waiting to start Jordan Clarkson, playing power forward-center Ryan Kelly at the small forward position, and poor decisions late in games were just some of the head scratchers that Byron Scott put forth in the middle of the season.

And if he was not trying to tank, may the basketball gods have mercy on his soul because those were some of the worst coaching decisions made in the entire NBA. That certainly won’t cut it in Los Angeles where championships are the standard.
