Stephen Hawking addresses the One Direction drama
Stephen Hawking has positive news for 1D fans upset about Zayn Malik leaving the band.
Where do broken hearts go?
Professor Stephen Hawking had some words of wisdom for One Direction fans upset over Zayn Malik’s departure. According to Hawking, theoretical physics makes it possible that, in another universe, Zayn is still a part of One Direction.
At a Q&A at the Sydney Opera House, a hologram Hawking was asked: “What do you think is the cosmological effect of Zayn leaving One Direction and consequently breaking the hearts of millions of teenage girls across the world?”
Of course, Hawking replied with both humor and intelligence:
"“Finally, a question about something important. My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay close attention to the study of theoretical physics. Because one day there may well be proof of multiple universes. It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another different universe. And in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction. This girl may like to know that in another possible universe, she and Zayn are happily married.”"
So you’re saying there’s a chance!
In addition to questions about disintegrating boy bands, Hawing also addressed personal issues, including his struggles with ALS, and scientific ones, about the universe and the future of mankind.
But Hawking’s response had got us thinking, (no doubt, as he intended) if Zayn can still be in One Direction in an alternate universe, what other things could exist?
Maybe, in an alternate universe, John Calipari and Derrick Rose’s Memphis Tigers team would have fouled up three with 10.8 seconds left. Had they fouled, they could have avoided this.
Maybe, in an alternate universe, Russell Wilson would not have put that pass right in the path of the Patriots’ Malcom Butler.
Or maybe, in an alternate universe, the Portland Trail Blazers would not have taken Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan.
So the next time someone or something disappoints you, take solace in the fact that, in an alternate universe, things may be be different.
