  1. Minnesota Vikings—Took Trae Waynes at No. 11

What anyone saw in Trae Waynes heading into this is beyond this analyst. Sure Waynes as a Day two pick made sense. But anywhere in the first? No way!

Yet the Minnesota Vikings took him No. 11 overall.

Sure they needed a cornerback. And of the possible situations Waynes could have landed in, Minnesota is probably the best since they play a lot of zone coverage. After all, Waynes is a horrific man-to-man corner.

He is a ballhawk with good ball skills. But those are only present when he’s in zone coverage.

If Minnesota every puts him in man-to-man coverage against Calvin Johnson, Jordy Nelson or Alshon Jeffrey, you might as well get ready to hear excited announcers exclaim, “Touchdown Detroit!”, or “Touchdown Packers!”, or “Touchdown Bears!”

It doesn’t help that Waynes goes into Minnesota immediately expected to compete for a starting spot. What may help is that Mike Zimmer has a part of teams taking first-round corners many times before, and he is a great defensive mind.

If anyone can get something out of Waynes, it figures to be Zimmer.

It’s a still questionable pick.
