Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are another team whose draft is easy to like. Laken Tomlinson was a good value at No. 28 overall—even if most had him with a second-round grade. It was even better given that they acquired a starting guard, Manny Ramirez, and a 2016 pick to move down five spots in the first-round.

So the Lions are another team which has done quite well over the first two days. Their second-round pick, Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah is another player easy to fall in love with. He really is the epitome of a do-it-all running back in the Reggie Bush mold.

When asked about that Friday night, Abdullah simply said he wants to prove he’s the only Ameer Abdullah. But the comparison to Bush is an apt one nonetheless. He will absolutely be used in that offense in the same way Bush was a season ago. Plus he’s a lot younger with less banging on his body.

He’s just a great fit. Then there was the Lions’ third-round pick, Stanford cornerback Alex Carter. Carter was an underrated favorite of mine entering the draft. He’s a bigger corner, especially in this draft class, at 6’0”, who fits exactly what the Lions are looking for from their defensive backs.

He may not start immediately, but will likely be used a sub-package guy, which in today’s NFL is the equivalent of starting. And truthfully, he can excel in the slot when asked to do so, despite his size.
