Tennessee Titans

I for one was not a huge fan of the Tennessee Titans selecting Marcus Mariota. I like him as a person, and legitimately believe he could be a good quarterback in the NFL in the right situation. I just don’t see that situation being Tennessee. But if things were ever going to work out for him there, the Titans have done their darndest to ensure it come to fruition.

First, they won simply by trading back seven slots from the day’s first pick (33 overall) to 40 and still acquired the second most gifted receiver in the entire draft—and in truth, maybe the most gifted—in Dorial Green-Beckham. Green-Beckham’s obvious detractors were character, which is what led him to slide to 40.

But in the second-round, it was a gamble worth taking, especially since the Titans already have two solid receivers in Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright. They could have the best young trio in the league if Green-Beckham keeps his head on straight.

Mariota at least will not be lacking for weapons to throw to in the NFL. Then the Titans further solidified Mariota’s surroundings by drafting Utah offensive lineman Jeremiah Poutasi, who projects as a guard. Because of Mariota’s natural three-quarters throwing motion, he’s going to need an interior who keeps interior rusher’s hands down.

Poutasi ought to be able to do just that. And again, that would be a tremendous aide to Mariota.
