MLB: Top 30 leadoff hitters of all-time
One of the top active leadoff hitters in the game, Jose Reyes can still climb this list before his career ends. Just 32 years old, the switch-hitting shortstop has a .291/.340/.434 slash through Monday and is one of the most dangerous table setters and base runners of his generation.
In 1,050 games with the New York Mets, Reyes hit leadoff 945 times. He made the National League All-Star team four times, led the NL in stolen bases three times (and MLB twice), and led the big leagues in triples on four occasions. In his final season in New York, Reyes won the 2011 NL batting title with a .337 average.
Reyes signed with the Miami Marlins prior to the 2012 season and though he led the NL with 716 plate appearances, he spent the second half of the season as the team’s No. 3 hitter. A trade to the Toronto Blue Jays meant Reyes could return to the top of the lineup where’s he’s been for most of the last two-plus seasons.
To date, Reyes has 1,787 hits, 315 doubles, 115 triples (second among active players), has scored 979 runs and has stolen 458 bases (which ranks third among active players and 50th all-time).
