James Jones Will Prove Himself In The Fourth Quarter

The Cleveland Cavaliers loaded up their bench with veterans who want to win a title this year, but this is the time of the season when they all need to prove their more than just freeloading their way to a ring. James Jones and Mike Miller were largely thought to have been brought to Cleveland because their close with LeBron James from his days with the Heat, but when it comes to them stepping up in a series, this is their moment.

Jones was starting to his a stride earlier in the season when he would replace Kevin Love down the stretch of games and close out fourth quarters on the floor. In those games, Jones began to build up this three-point shooting percentage and he started to instill some confidence in himself that he can come in and produce.

All of that was basically practice, as James Jones needs to come in and be that fourth quarter closer for the Cavaliers against the Bulls — especially in the first two games. Jones will be an outside scoring threat for the Cavaliers much in the same way that J.R. Smith is at times for Cleveland. If Jones can come in and help contribute to the Cavaliers closing out in the fourth quarter, this could be a series that gets away from the Bulls as they lack that consistent closing punch.

Bulls Response: James Jones is a phenomenal three point shooter. No one is arguing that. It’s the rest of his game that brings the Cavs down to a new level when he is out there. He is far from the defender that Kevin Love is. Additionally, his ability to score is far inferior to that of Mike Miller. I think that when James Jones is faced with significant minutes in the series against the Bulls, his true colors will show and he will fold.
