2. Young hitters are solid hitters

The Cubs’ young hitters have been the talk of the town at Wrigley Field and the Cubs are far from finished from bringing up all the guys developing in their farm system who have major league potential. This season, Jorge Soler, Addison Russell, and Kris Bryant have been producing in a big way for the Cubs despite being so young. If these three guys can continue to develop, by the time the playoffs rolls around they might be the keys to the Cubs’ success.

Addison Russell is the most recent addition to the Cubs’ roster. In his first 11 games,  he has struggled a bit but we have seen some good things. His seven RBIs and two home runs prove that he can hit for power and come through when it counts as well. The big worrisome number for Russell has been in the strike out category. If he can limit his strikeouts (20 so far) and continue raising his batting average he will be a solid no. 2 hitter for the Cubs before the playoffs start.

Jorge Soler has been up since the beginning of the year and hasn’t given the Cubs a reason to send him back down. He has has been a strong presence in their heart of their order hitting .266, with a .333 OBP, and adding nine RBIs. Like Russell, if Soler can continue to improve and make strides with his swing, there is no reason to think he can’t become the hitter he is capable of by the time the playoffs swing around.

The real talk of the town in Chicago is the former no. 1 prospect in baseball in Kris Bryant. There hasn’t been more hype surrounding a Cubs hitter since Sammy Sosa. Kris Bryant is the real deal. In just 16 short games with the Cubs, Bryant has hit .291, has a .458 OBP, and has 11 RBIs. Not bad for someone who is only 23 years old. Bryant shows a rare patience at the plate. Something that isn’t typically seen in rookie hitters. If he can continue doing what he’s doing, and add a few home runs here and there, the hype surrounding him won’t leave fans disappointed.

These three guys will be key to any success the Cubs have this season. As their careers progress, the Cubs fate this season will live and die with their progression as hitters. Obviously there is no pressure, because they are just rookies. But if they can prove to be everything they are hyped up to be, the Cubs definetly have a chance at winning the World Series this year.
