DH. Detroit Tigers. Victor Martinez. 3. player. 63.

It has been tough to watch Victor Martinez struggle — especially for Detroit Tigers fans. The 36-year-old designated hitter signed a big contract with the team this past offseason as he was expected to become a free agent, but stayed with the city he has called home for the past four years.

Martinez had one of the best seasons of his veteran career in 2014, which came as a bit of a surprise seeing as he was turned 35 and not many people thought he had anything left in the tank after some health issues regarding his knees.

The veteran DH recorded his fifth-straight season of hitting over .300 last year while hitting a career-high 32 home runs and 103 RBI. However, this offseason called for another surgery on his knee, although this one was minor.

It has shown thus far in the 2015 season that he just doesn’t have the same power in his legs that he once had — even last season. It will take some time to get it back, but I believe that he truly will return to form within the coming weeks.

Although he’s hitting just .233 with one home run and 15 RBI on the year, he has stepped his game up a little recently, going 5-of-11 with a homer and six RBI in his past three games.

V-Mart will be back with a vengeance.
