Gary Suter. 20. player. 112. <p>Gary Suter played 17 years in the NHL with the Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks but experienced his greatest individual and team success with the Flames where he spent the first 8.5 seasons of his career.</p> <p>He was a diamond in the rough after the Flames took him in the ninth round (No. 180) overall in the 1984 draft but played well above his draft slot, winning the Calder Trophy after he scored 18 goals with 50 assists to tie Hall of Famer Al MacInnis for the team lead among defenseman on the team. He also played in the All-Star game.</p> <p>Two years later he had his finest season with a career-highs in assists with 70, points with 91 and plus/minus as a plus-39 to finish third in the Norris and eighth in the Hart. The next year he suffered a broken jaw in the first round of the playoffs and had to watch as Calgary won the Stanley Cup.</p> <p>The five-time All-Star was hampered by injuries off and on throughout his career but still finished with the fourth-most points among American defensemen with 844 points, his 2013 goals rank sixth and his 90 power play goals rank fifth.</p>
