3 Starting Pitcher Stay-Aways

1. Jeff Locke-Pittsburgh Pirates: Usually Locke is an underrated sleeper play, but he has been getting knocked around lately allowing four runs or more in each of his last three starts.  As he and the Pirates close out the Cardinals this afternoon, I’d look elsewhere since he doesn’t offer a ton of strikeouts even when he’s on and he hasn’t been on lately as his 4.85 ERA for the season indicates.

2. R.A. Dickey-Toronto Blue Jays: Dickey is coming off a good start against the Yankees, and the Red Sox lineup has been a mess lately. However, Dickey has so-s0 numbers against the Red Sox as a team and has struggled against several of the big hitters on Boston.  The Red Sox lineup has been so frustrated that I think a breakthrough could be coming, and I’d avoid Dickey just in case his knuckleball is just what they need to get back on track.

3. Shane Greene-Detroit Tigers: Greene started the season on fire allowing just one earned run through his first three starts, but he’s fallen apart in his last three starts allowing a total of 20 earned runs in 11 innings to the Indians, Twins, and White Sox.  Tonight, he’ll complete his tour of the AL Central taking on the Royals on Sunday Night Baseball.  He was so good early, but until he shows a return to that form, I’d look elsewhere for fantasy baseball starting pitchers today.
