Someone wrote in Paul Pierce’s name on Polish presidential ballot

Forget MVP. Forget the All-Star team, forget any of it. Paul Pierce has a shot at the presidency… in Poland.

Poland’s presidential elections are taking place now, and at least one vote was cast for Pierce. The Wizards star forward has not, as of now, expressed any ambition for holding political office in central Europe.

Marcin Gortat, Pierce’s Polish teammate, tweeted a photo of the ballot:

” The vote for Pierce was actually cast by Bartosz Bielecki, a Polish correspondent for the Wizards blog TruthAboutIt.Net.

The election is headed for a May 24 runoff between incumbent Bronislaw Komorowski and challenger Andrzej Duda of the conservative nationalist Law and Justice party, neither of whom hit a game-winning shot to defeat the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, which can only hurt their chances.

Pierce submitted his campaign ad on Saturday:

He also has his campaign slogan, from an interview with USA Today: “Paul Pierce is just going to be who Paul Pierce is going to be.”

That’s compelling. I’d vote for him.

Considering that most people want more honesty from their politicians, having the nickname The Truth can take Pierce far in politics, especially since it was given to him by Shaquille O’Neal, an officer of the law.

It’s unlikely that Pierce speaks Polish, which may hurt him in the long run. Plus, if we won the presidency he’d have to give up his current position as King in the North.

But alas, it was not to be for Pierce, whose Polish political dreams were dashed:

Oh well. Maybe next election cycle will bring better things for Pierce. After all, even Teddy Roosevelt lost a Presidential election once, and he’s on Mount Rushmore. If things go well, they’ll need to carve another spot for Pierce before long.
