Russell Westbrook gives his brother his college diploma
Oklahoma City Thunder‘s Russell Westbrook presents his brother with his college diploma.
It’s graduation season and hundreds of thousands of college seniors will be parading across campus and receiving diplomas, and Russell Westbrook is one of those people. Westbrook didn’t graduate himself, but he gave one graduate an incredibly special moment.
On Saturday, Ray Westbrook, Russell’s younger brother, graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma. Russell, the second runner-up in the 2015 NBA MVP voting, was in attendance and handed Ray his diploma as he crossed the stage.
The University of Central Oklahoma took the time to thank Russ for stopping by.
Or, at least, it’s the diploma holder. I’m pretty sure they mail you the diploma a few weeks later.
Of course, Ray and Russell documented the moment on Instagram.
A few things here. First, it’s great that Ray was able to get his diploma, despite the people who said he couldn’t. Way to prove the haters wrong.

Second, if Ray’s parents couldn’t be there (due to transportation issues), it’s awesome that Russ could be there to represent the family. I guess this is the silver lining to the Thunder missing the playoffs this year. If they were in a series with the Clippers or Grizzles, this family-friendly moment would not have been possible.
