A new commercial shows Odell Beckham on the cover of the new Madden video game

Who was the most electric and exciting player last NFL season? There are a couple choices for the title but, for my money, it has to be Odell Beckham Jr.

The fans agree, as they voted him to the cover of Madden and can be seen this week for the trailer of the new Madden 16 video game, accompanied by the other candidates-Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Brown, and Patrick Peterson.

The trailer doesn’t show too much of the game-play, just some snippets of each player executing a realistic highlight over a division rival. While the other players land some basic moves, Beckham is shown with patented one-handed, over the shoulder, strangely contorted, catch of the decade, albeit over a Redskins player not a Cowboy.

Beckham had a season worthy of his ridiculous catch. He logged 91 receptions in just 12 games and over 1,300 receiving yard with 12 touchdowns. His rookie year ranks in the top ten of all time, especially considering how quickly he amassed those stats.

Of course, this could spell an ill omen for his sophomore reason. I am, of course, invoking the infamous Madden curse, which as plagued many a player over its time. The last player to really be affected by the Madden curse was Peyton Hillis back in 2012. The season after he graced the cover, he had a huge let down, never repeating his 2010, 1,100 campaign for the Browns. Hillis only managed a meager 587 yards in 2011 and 307 yard in 2012 with the Browns and Chiefs, respectively.

Beckham is also primed for a letdown. The sophomore slump is real. While the Giants should be playing a lot of catch up in games because of lackluster defense, Beckham may not match his rookie season totals.

Beckham might be better off trying to appease the Madden gods before lacing up his cleats for the beginning of this season.
