3 Starting Pitcher Stay-Aways

1. Tim Lincecum-San Francisco Giants: Lincecum has been pitching well this season and comes into tonight’s start with a 2.00 ERA and a 3-2 record not having allowed a run in his last two starts over a 14 inning span.  However, I’d still avoid him tonight for a couple of reasons. First, Lincecum is 0-3 with a 12.83 ERA in his three regular-season starts against Cincinnati over the last three years.  There are several key Cincinnati hitters that have good personal numbers against the Giants starter.  Secondly, Lincecum’s success this season has come almost entirely at home at AT&T Park where he is extremely comfortable.  On the road, Lincecum has gone 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA in his two starts this season.  He could bring it once again, but he is too risky in this matchup tonight to roll with in daily lineups in my opinion.

2. Drew Hutchinson-Toronto Blue Jays: Somehow Hutchinson is 3-0 on the season despite a 6.69 ERA. Things have been even worse on the road aside from an Opening Day win in New York.  In his four road starts, Hutchinson’s ERA is 9.64, and as he faces a tough Houston offense tonight, he should be left off your active roster.

3. Jeremy Guthrie-Kansas City Royals: Guthrie is coming off his best start of the season after holding the Tigers to two runs on eight hits in 7.1 innings last Saturday. However, he still sports an ugly 5.70 ERA and he has splits against the Rangers which show he could be set up for another pounding this afternoon.  There’s a chance he can earn a win since Ross Detwiler has been a mess too, but I’d avoid both starting pitchers in this matchup and stock up on hitters for daily leagues.
