3 Starting Pitcher Sleepers

1. Jonathon Niese-New York Mets: Niese is a perennial streaming option, and most fantasy owners who have tried streaming starting pitchers have used him multiple times.  He’s rewarded those who have this season allowing one earned run or fewer in five of his six starts to accumulate an impressive 1.95 ERA.  Niese normally doesn’t pile up a ton of strikeouts, but he’s a great pickup for today’s game in Chicago if your league is one of the over 60% of ESPN leagues in which Niese is on the waiver wire.

2. Brett Anderson-Los Angeles Dodgers: Anderson faces his former team for the second consecutive start as the Dodgers host the Rockies tonight in LA.  Anderson allowed six hits and one unearned run in a rain-shortened win on Friday over Colorado, and he’ll look to improve to 3-1 tonight.  He hasn’t allowed an earned run in each of his last two starts, and he’s given the Dodgers’ rotation a nice boost.  Anderson just hasn’t been able to stay healthy in his career, but for now that doesn’t seem to be an issue making him a solid sleeper option since he is owned in under 5% of ESPN leagues and is among the cheapest starters in daily fantasy baseball as well.

3. Chase Whitley-New York Yankees: Whitley got knocked around by the Orioles in his last start allowing five earned runs on three home runs in 5.2 innings taking his first loss of the season.  He should be able to bounce back tonight, though, as the Yankees take on Tampa Bay at the Trop and look to continue piling on the struggling Erasmo Ramirez (0-1, 8.38 ERA). Whitley faced the Rays in his first start of the season holding them to one run on six hits in five innings. He is a sneaky source of strikeouts with 16 in his 17.2 innings, and I think he’s got a good shot to get a win tonight as the Yankees look to earn a split of their four-game set in Tampa.
