San Francisco Giants, 3rd Place NL West

How they do it we don’t know. The only thing we do know is that they always seem to do it.

We, of course, are talking about the winning ways of the San Francisco Giants.

Getting off to a brutal 7-11 start, the discussion around the baseball campfire started to involve the words “reloading” and “Giants” in the same sentence. Perhaps – after winning their third World Series Championship in the last five seasons – San Francisco would need a season to reload and come back stronger in 2016.

Well, an 8-2 mark over their last 10 has put an end to those discussions.

At the moment, only the division leading Los Angeles Dodgers are at a distance from the reigning champs. Not even the newly-formed superstud outfield of the San Diego Padres can say they’ve separated themselves from Buster Posey and company.

As expected, the problem has been offense – thanks to the loss of one Pablo Sandoval.

Bruce Bochy has not been able to get his lineup card right. The Giants are ranking near the bottom of the league in total runs scored and it’s been a brutal season at the plate for mostly everyone.

Defensive whiz at shortstop, Brandon Crawford, has provided a shot in the arm. His five home runs and 15 runs batted in leads the team. Aside from Crawford and Posey, however, they’ve done very little.

Within the next week, Hunter Pence, who they’ve been without all season, will rejoin the team. He’s currently in Triple-A Sacramento on a rehab stint.

Pence’s return coupled with a relatively soft May schedule (Rockies, Brewers, Braves and Marlins) should allow the Giants recent hot ways to continue.

Unfortunately for the Dodgers, these Giants aren’t going away anytime soon.
