Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving hopes he can play on Wednesday in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Atlanta Hawks.

The Cleveland Cavaliers managed to beat the Chicago Bulls in six games to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals despite a growing list of injuries. Point guard Kyrie Irving is amongst the most banged up players, coming into the final game of that series with tendinitis in his left knee and an injured right foot.

Things got worse on Thursday, when he stepped on Tristan Thompson’s foot and aggravated that left knee injury.

Fortunately, Irving almost gets a full week off before Game 1 against the Atlanta Hawks, but there is no guarantee he’ll be ready. Cavaliers head coach David Blatt didn’t give an optimistic check in on Irving’s update, but added that the team hopes he will be good to go for Game 1.

From Ohio.com:

"Cavs coach David Blatt said Irving saw the doctors again Friday. Blatt couldn’t give a definitive assessment of Irving’s status for Wednesday’s Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Hawks in Atlanta, but said the Cavs “hope” he can play."

Given the sheer volume of injuries we’ve seen Kyrie Irving play with this post season in particular, and it being his first Eastern Conference Finals, you’d have to imagine there is no way Irving would not be playing in this game.

Even in limited minutes, you’d think Irving would find his way onto the court.

The Cavaliers are also without power forward Kevin Love, who had his arm basically ripped off by Boston Celtics big man Kelly Olynyk. Being down Irving as well would be a huge hit for the Cavaliers, though they finished out the second half of Game 6 pretty strongly without Irving on Thursday night.
