1. Brandon Scherff – No. 5 Overall, Washington Redskins

Then, we finally get to the biggest surprise of the 2015 NFL Draft.

The decision to bring in Iowa’s Brandon Scherff, instead of going with Leonard Williams, is what sent shock-waves through the league where they play for pay.

With Williams staring them in the face at No. 5, the Washington Redskins decided to go with a big hog on the offensive side instead of the defensive side.

From all indications, Scherff is very deserving of the spot. He’s a versatile guy who comes in at an athletic 6-5, 319 lbs. As a senior, he took home the Outland Trophy (most outstanding interior offensive lineman), while playing both inside and on the edge.

For Washington, he’ll most likely be plugged into the right tackle spot.

Why Scherff over Williams? Although Scherff has all the qualities needed to be a Pro Bowl offensive lineman, Williams is projected by many to have the stuff of legends.

Furthermore, it’s not like the Skins are stout at defensive line. It’s a newly-formed unit lead by free agent acquisitions Terrance Knighton and Jason Hatcher.

With both positions up for grabs (offensive and defensive line), the Skins decided to do whatever they could to further the development of Robert Griffin III.

This is shocking, purely based on the feeling that Williams is by far the better prospect.

The Jets took Williams despite their defensive line being the last spot they needed help at.

Will this come back to bite Washington in the ass? Only time will tell.
