Sometimes the headline doesn’t sell the story properly — so let’s correct that with Swapped Headline with Lauren Lapka.

Ever feel like you’re reading an article and the headline doesn’t accurately reflect the content. Well I look at some of the bigger stories in sports and come up with some headlines I think are better suited to the actual story.

“Babcock still calculating which team has more Canadian players”

Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock has yet to decide where he wants to coach next year. In his 10 years with the Red Wings, Babcock has never missed a postseason and he led his team to a Stanley Cup championship in 2008. Rumor has it he has been in contact with six teams. Buffalo is one team that is extremely interested. Not surprising, considering they’ve finished dead last the past two seasons. Buffalo may have some leverage with general manager Tim Murray, he and Babcock worked together in Anaheim back in the early 2000’s. As for the headline, it makes more sense to big hockey fans. Being a Canada native himself, Babcock tends to favor Canadian players and personnel.

“From Saint to Sinner, Golson heads to FSU”

Quarterback Everett Golson has decided to transfer from Notre Dame to play his final season at Florida State University. Golson announced earlier this month that he intended on leaving Notre Dame but, was unsure where exactly he would be headed to. “After much thought and careful consideration, I will utilize my fifth year of eligibility to join the Florida State University Seminoles,” Golson stated Tuesday. After a strong 6-0 start in 2014, Golson started to stumble. The Irish finished 8-5 and Golson racked up 22 turnovers and 8 fumbles. His biggest blow may have came when he was replaced by Malik Zaire in their final game. None the less, he is leaving Notre Dame on a somewhat positive note with a 17-6 record with 41 touchdowns.

“Nice try Mike Trout, Matt Joyce proves baseball players are human by forgetting what time work starts”

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Matt Joyce lived the nightmare that we often have, he completely forgot what time he was supposed to be at work. How did he manage to forget what time his game was, well he claims he thought Monday afternoons game against the Blue Jays was at night. Joyce has been fined for being late and was pulled from the starting lineup by manager Mike Scioscia. Angels ended up losing 10-6 to the Jays. What a  horrible, no good, very bad day.

“NFL sick of extra-point kicks being too easy”

The NFL will be moving the extra-point kicks to the 15 yard line and will allow defenses to score on 2-point conversion turnovers. The owners approved the proposal from the competition committee Tuesday. The idea is to make it more challenging considering kickers have made more than 99 percent of their attempts in the past couple years. Also, the 2-point conversion on the 2 yard line will now allow the defense to return a turnover to the other end for two points. The only two teams who didn’t want the rule change was Washington and Oakland.

“Charlie Weis, the BIGGEST mistake Notre Dame has ever made”

Charlie Weis, former Notre Dame football coach is still receiving two million dollars annually from the University. It gets better. Last fall was Weis’ third season with Kansas; he was fired after just four games, which means they still own him $5.63 million. That means he could potentially earn more than $24.5 million from both schools without even coaching. Notre Dame kicked him to the curb back in 2009 after a 6-6 season. Weis originally looked like welcome change for the Irish leading his teams to a 9-2 season in 2005 and a 10-2 season in 2006. Things changed rather abruptly in 2007 when they finished 3-9, the worst season in the history of the program.
