NBA Rumors: Paul Pierce looking to join Clippers
By Mike Dyce
Paul Pierce could be considering opting out of his contract with the Washington Wizards to join the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Los Angeles Clippers nearly punched their ticket to the Western Conference Finals, coming up just short against the Houston Rockets. The Washington Wizards gave the Atlanta Hawks a tough series thanks to the heroics of veteran Paul Pierce.
Perhaps Paul Pierce could be the missing piece to the Clippers, the part that gets them over the hump. He does have a history of winning and contending for championships with Clippers head coach Doc Rivers.
According to TNT’s David Aldridge, there are a lot of people around the league who think Pierce is heading west to team up with the Clippers and Rivers once again.
"Maybe Paul Pierce will walk away from the second year of his deal ($5.5 million) in Washington in order to finish his career in his hometown, playing for his old Celtics coach and his former teammate-turned-Clippers assistant Sam Cassell for less money.…many around the league believe Pierce will do just that and finish his career back home in Los Angeles with the Clippers."
The Clippers will easily have the most intriguing offseason of any NBA team. They have the contract of DeAndre Jordan expiring, and have to decide whether they want to throw money to keep him or let him walk away.
Even if they throw money at Jordan, there is the very real chance that he doesn’t want to return to the Clippers because of an alleged beef with other players on the team, specifically point guard Chris Paul.
The price tag Jordan could command could be too high.
And who knows if Pierce can recapture his form from the 2015 playoffs next season either, that would be another gamble for the Clippers.
