Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels has many a home run saving catch to his name. Will Venable of the San Diego Padres played the role of karma during Tuesday night’s interleague meeting

The San Diego Padres spent the off-season acquiring outfielders named Wil Myers, Matt Kemp and Justin Upton.  These moves strapped on the “for sale” signs to incumbent starting outfielders Cameron Maybin (now in Atlanta), Carlos Quentin (now retired) and to a lesser sense, Will Venable.  Here’s one of the reasons the Padres held on to Venable.

The man hitting the ball is Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout.  Sure, the initial All-Star voting has Trout ranked second in American League outfield votes but West Coast teams have more trouble getting ballot stuffers than East Coast teams.  Much of the heroics performed by Trout are done while most of America is sleeping.

With one out and Erick Aybar on first base after a single, Trout jumped on a 1-2 fastball from Padres pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne.

That’s when karma and Will Venable intervened.  The karma, of course, is due to the many home run-stealing catches that Trout has to his credit. Venable was karma’s vehicle as he raced to the deepest part of centerfield, leaped and brought back into Angel Stadium.
