Martin Maldonado’s walk-off homer ends 5 hour 49min game
By Len Nunes
Milwaukee Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado ended the longest game in his home park’s history with a walk-off homer in the 17th inning.
Sometimes a player’s tweet on his personal account can foreshadow upcoming events.
Sunday’s game between the Milwuakee Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks would prove Maldonado’s dog right. The dog sensed that his master was going to be gone longer than expected.
Eleven minutes shy of six hours to play one single baseball game. That’s long enough to set the record for the longest game in Miller Park’s 14 year history. The Brewers exhausted their bench and their bullpen. Kyle Lohse was called upon to pinch hit in the 12th.
Monday’s scheduled starter Matt Garza came into pitch in the 13th inning and ended up going the final five frames. Arizona Diamondback Paul Goldschmidt etched his name into MLB history with the following weird stat:
The D’Backs led 4-0 after three innings. The Brewers would take their first lead of the game, 6-5, in the sixth inning after Jean Segura singled home Martin Maldonado. D’back slugger Mark Trumbo would tie the game at six during the eighth inning.
A full game later:
Both the Brewers and Diamondbacks play on Monday. The Brewers travel to St. Louis while the D’Backs travel home to play the Braves.
Coffee, black please!
