Houston Astros are getting rid of unnecessary centerfield hill
Much to the delight of outfielders everywhere, the Houston Astros are getting rid of the field in center field.
The Houston Astros have always had one of the most unique stadiums in baseball.
Whether it’s the train filled with oranges that roars along a track over the stadium when a home run is smashed or the obnoxious rolling hill in center field, Minute Maid Park offers a series of challenges and advantages to players.
In what will easily be music to the ears of many outfielders, the Astros will be removing “Tal’s Hill” from the outfield and move in the outfield fences as part of a massive renovation project.
For years, many players have been laid waste to by the wrath of the random hill in center field. Seriously, who decided when building the stadium that it would be a good idea to place a steep hill in the outfield that would create problems and possibly lead to injuries?
The train was a sweet idea — the hill not so much.
Fans should be excited about the changes being made because it impacts them as well. In place of where the hill was located, the Astros will be putting in a seating area that will feature a bar.
Here’s a rendering of what it will look like.
This sounds like a win-win situation for everyone involved.
The fans get a new seating area and bar, the owners get their updated stadium and those traversing the wide landscapes of the outfield will no longer have to worry about pulling a Spider-Man up the hill to make a catch.
So long hill, you won’t be missed.
