Miami Dolphins

Like the Jets, it’s been a very long time since the Miami Dolphins won a Super Bowl, though they had back-to-back wins in 1973 and 1974. Lately though, it’s been a difficult time. The Dolphins have been just good enough to avoid a complete tear-down, but not good enough to completely challenge the rest of the division, forget the conference.

In fact, the Dolphins haven’t had a winning record since 2008, when they hit 11-5 and won the division, though they lost in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. And really, that was an aberration. In the last decade, the Dolphins have a grand total of two seasons where they were over .500. That aforementioned 2008 season, and 2005 when they were 9-7.

The last time they were in the playoffs before that 2008 season, by the way, was in 2001, when they lost in the Wild Card round.

That’s a lot of losing and a lot of frustration. They’ve had poor teams, unlucky teams, badly coached teams and teams which have imploded for other reasons. All in all, it hasn’t been all sunshine and roses in Miami.

Can this year be different? The high-profile grab of Ndamukong Suh shores up the defense while moving on from Mike Wallace for Greg Jennings, Kenny Stills and Jordan Cameron gives quarterback Ryan Tannehill the best targets he has had since he was drafted.

But again, like the Jets, they have the problem of what to do if Tannehill isn’t the answer. This should be a solid team this year – they just need their quarterback to show them the way.

Miami fans remain hopeful and if nothing else, loyal. And at least, if they lose a lot, they have nice weather to grill in for pregame activities.
