Est. 1890. National League East. Philadelphia Phillies. 17. player. 6.

  • Home Cap: 21st
  • Home Jersey: 18th
  • Road Cap: 17th
  • Road Jersey: 11th

The Good: Had I included alternate uniforms in my individual cap and jersey ranking system, the Philadelphia Philles would rank a little higher because the throwback-ish (mostly) Sunday uniforms the team has worn since 2008 with the blue cap and helmet is beautiful. I think it’s the best alternate uniform in Major League Baseball today.

Of course, in addition to a beautiful alternate, the Phils have a solid set of regular uniforms that fits for a franchise that originally joined the National League in 1882. They wear red cleats, which I like, and incorporate pinstripes – something the team first did in 1911. Also, occasionally you’ll see a Phillies player with the team’s Liberty Bell logo on their exposed socks, which is a very nice touch.

The Bad: There’s really nothing to complain about when it comes to the Phillies uniforms. They do a couple of odd things – like putting jersey numbers on one sleeve and emphasizing white as a secondary color on their road gray uniform – but that doesn’t mean they’ve many any truly poor choices. The P isn’t a perfect cap logo, but it’s tough to visualize an improvement on it. Philadelphia simply has a really good, solid uniform set.
