The Boston Celtics are a historic franchise once again climbing the NBA ladder, so why don’t draft prospects want to work out for them?

This past season was a giant and surprising leap forward for the Boston Celtics. After starting the season with a struggling Rajon Rondo, a lot of cap space and a young head coach, it looked like the Celtics were going to pack it in and wait for next year.

Waiting wasn’t something that Danny Ainge wanted to do though, and dealing Rajon Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks and Jeff Green to the Memphis Grizzlies ended up being moves that spurred a massive change to the roster. That change didn’t fix the Celtics but it moved the roster in a direction that ended up being critically important to the growth of the young players on it.

That growth seems to be nearing a pinnacle, and the plethora of draft picks the Celtics have will only further speed up for rebuilding. There’s some problems with that though, as players first need to want to come to Boston before they can be considered solutions to current problems.

According to Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald, it appears that the Celtics are having trouble getting players with potential lottery grades to work out for them.

Sam Dekker was the latest draft prospect to pull out of working out for the Celtics, which seems to suggest agents aren’t certain the Celtics will be trading up into the lottery to add to it’s roster. Boston currently has picks No. 16 and No. 28, which is ammunition to move up in the draft and into the lottery.

It’s troubling though that no one wants to work out for the Celtics and if they continue to lose out on lottery prospects at workouts, the incentive to move up seems to lose a lot of it’s gleam.
