Kings Should Trade DeMarcus Cousins to Someone Other Than The Lakers

The popular option for teams with disputes among players and coaches is to keep the coach and cut out the cancer — usually meaning the player. DeMarcus Cousins has long been a hot-tempered player for the Kings but we’ve seen that has mostly to do with the fact that he’s on a losing team that could be so much better than it is.

Cousins has been the subject of trade rumors for a few seasons now, and that’s why trading him seems like a likely outcome here. It’s not that trading a 24-year old All-Star center is a good idea, it’s that trading him at this point seems like the thing we’re expecting to have happen.

If the Lakers truly want Cousins as badly as they’ve let on, then the Kings have an easy destination to send him. Truly putting him on the trading block though, they’ll field better offers from teams Cousins might be happier to go play for. Teams like the Knicks, Celtics, Clippers and others could jump at a chance to acquire Cousins and have assets much better than what the Lakers have to offer back.
