Western Conference. San Antonio Spurs. 2. player. 29. <span style=. Southwest Division

The Spurs were already going to be NBA Finals contenders, but they mainly earned that title out of respect. Just about everyone assumed that their championship window had closed and their dynasty era had come to an end. Gregg Popovich was looking like he might retire, and ditto for Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili.

What a change in tone it has been since the time when the Spurs were eliminated by the Clippers to right now when they’re in the midst of a free agency bonanza. It has been about a decade since San Antonio last made a run at a free agent, and they’re going in hard to make sure they force their championship window back open for as long as they can hold it.

Adding LaMarcus Aldridge wasn’t the best move they made, it was one in a series of excellent moves they made that will no doubt make them title contenders in the West. David West is going to be big off the bench for the Spurs and the re-signing of Kawahi Leonard means the Spurs have a face of the future for the franchise.
