Minnesota has never been a free agent destination, and it probably never will be. That’s why it’s so important for the Timberwolves to make sure they homegrown a roster to become as attractive as possible.

That has happened over the last few years, as young talent like Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine have given the franchise a type of promise that made Kevin Garnett not only want to come back in a trade but sign a two-year deal to help see the team through to booming winners again.

Karl-Anthony Towns and Tyus Jones were huge additions in the draft, which was Minnesota’s version of free agency. No free agent was going to come to Minnesota, but they have young pieces in place as well as the veteran leadership of Garnett combined with the talents of Ricky Rubio, Shabazz Muhammad and Nikola Pekovic which could make the Wolves contenders in the postseason.

They haven’t been to the playoffs since 2004, but the Wolves have the right amount of special young talent to make one of those surprise runs we saw teams like the Bucks, Celtics and Pelicans go on last season.
