What a story it would be if the Sacramento Kings mustered up some magic and went on an NBA Finals run after all of the George Karl-DeMarcus Cousins drama we saw unfold this summer? That could very well happen, as the Kings front office went from being utterly incapable of being able to control their own leaks to bringing together a roster of talent that might actually make Sac-Town a winner this season.

DeMarcus Cousins wasn’t traded, which was perhaps the biggest move the Kings needed to make this summer. They couldn’t afford to give up a young All-Star talent like Cousins, and they were able to hang onto him and avoid dramatic fallout.

The three signings that Kings mustered up were huge. Rajon Rondo is on a rehab tour after a disastrous season last year with the Celtics and Mavericks, and has massive incentive to return to his All-Star form this year. Marco Belinelli is one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA and was a big part of helping the Spurs win the NBA Finals in 2013-14. Then there’s Kosta Koufos — one of the sneakiest signings of the summer.

Couscous adds a big body to the frontcourt that the Kings have been lacking for years. He is familiar with George Karl from his days in Denver and he will join Cousins in the frontcourt and possibly finally give the Kings the lineups they’ve wanted. They might not win the NBA Finals this year, but a run in the West is not at all out of the question.
