As the British Open Championship is set to begin we look at the list of winners by nation.

The British Open Championship is one of the biggest golf tournaments in the world and we look at a break down of the countries that have won. Golfers from the United States have won the British Open more than any other nation on the planet, including Scotland who have 1 less win than the United States with 41.

The United States has also had more individual golfers win the tournament than any other country with 27, Scotland had 22 golfers win the tournament.

England comes in third with 22 wins by 13 golfers and then South Africa has 10 wins between four golfers.

Surprisingly a small nation called Jersey has seven wins in the Open Championship, six of which came from golfer Harry Vardon in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Jordan Spieth will look to become the 28th American to win the tournament as he looks to win his third major of the year. Rory McIroy, who is one of three Northern Ireland golfers to win the tournament, will not be there to challenge his reign.
