Buffalo Bills 2015 Season Preview

The Bills finished last season with a 9-7 record while placing 2nd in the AFC East. The Bills have some solid pieces that will be valuable in fantasy this year. They acquired LeSean McCoy in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to bolster their run game. Sammy Watkins won’t be a rookie anymore and he should be more developed compared to last season. The Bills are a team that likes to play strong defense and control the clock with the run game, which is bad for fantasy because that means there is going to be less offensive production to account for. Even with less of a volume of plays being ran by the offense, the Bills still have players that can help your fantasy team.

Quarterback

Matt Cassel/ EJ Manuel

No matters which QB is starting for the Bills, you are not drafting either one of them in your fantasy league. The quarterback for the Bills is not going to produce enough to be fantasy relevant. Both of these QBs will be available on the waiver wire if you play match ups and stream QBs week to week.

Running Back

LeSean McCoy

McCoy ranked 13th among RBs last season with 200.90 fantasy points on the year, while averaging 12.56 fantasy points per game. McCoy had 10 games where he scored 10 fantasy points or more, and he had 3 games where he scored 20 fantasy points or more. I’m very concerned with McCoy this season. He’s going to face a lot of stacked boxes because the Bills do not have an efficient passing game. I think he’s going to get enough touches to be at least an RB2 for your fantasy team, but I don’t see him finishing with RB1 numbers this year. I don’t like the premium you have to pay to obtain him.

Fred Jackson

Jackson finished last season ranked 18th among running backs in fantasy production with 188.60 points on the season while averaging 13.47 points per game. Jackson had 10 games where he scored 10 fantasy points or more. Jackson is going to compete with McCoy for touches. From reading the tea leaves, the Bills act like they want to make McCoy the bell-cow back. Jackson is still going to have value as a vulture for touchdowns, and as a high end handcuff for McCoy.

Wide Receiver

Sammy Watkins

Watkins finished last season ranked 25th among wide receivers with 202.50 fantasy points on the year averaging 12.66 fantasy points per game. Watkins had 7 games where he scored 10 fantasy points or more, and he had 3 games where he scored 20 fantasy points or more. Watkins is a very talented receiver who has a lot of upside, but there’s a lot of risk involved when investing in Watkins. He’s in his 2nd season and he’s already has a new offensive system to learn, which is a moving part that we have to account for. Rex Ryan doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to offensive production. I like Watkins by the tons in dynasty leagues, but I’m very tepid with him this year in redraft.

Robert Woods

Woods finished last season ranked 44th among wide receivers 170.15 fantasy points on the year averaging 10.63 fantasy points per game. Woods had 6 games where he scored 10 fantasy points or more, and he had 2 games where he scored 20 fantasy points or more. Woods is going around the 14th round of fantasy drafts. In a lot of drafts he isn’t even getting drafted. The Bills offense isn’t going to be a juggernaut, but he’s a dependable flier at the end of your bench who can deliver WR2 upside.

Tight End

Charles Clay

Clay finished last season 15th among tight ends in fantasy production with 136.50 points on the year averaging 9.75 points per game. Clay had 5 games where he scored 10 fantasy points or more. Clay is a tight end you can get late in your fantasy draft and he might be available off waivers to stream during the season.

Defense/Special Teams

The Bills defense finished 1st in the league in fantasy production with 170 fantasy points on the year. The Bills had 8 games where they scored 10 fantasy points or more. I like the Bills again this season, and I recommend drafting them this season.
