The Seattle Seahawks have more than proven to be elite without great receivers. Pete Carroll’s team is a two-time defending NFC champion with a Super Bowl ring in that stretch, dominating opponents with a stifling defense and brutal running game. Still, an aerial component has been lacking.

Wayne is no longer the dominant player he once was, but would immediately challenge Doug Baldwin as the best receiver on the team. Few would argue that Wayne would be an upgrade over Paul Richardson and Jermaine Kearse, and would cost very little to kick the tires on.

General manager John Schneider brought in Jimmy Graham to star at tight end in a blockbuster trade with the New Orleans Saints this offseason. He might as well go the extra distance and take a chance on a guy who can mentor Richardson and Kearse while simultaneously give you a boost on offense.

There is no downside for the Seahawks here. Either Wayne comes to training camp, looks good and earns a spot, or he shows that the gas tank is on empty and gets cut. Seattle is trying to reach a third straight Super Bowl, something no team has done since the 1990-93 Buffalo Bills. Adding a future Hall of Famer would not hurt that cause.
