Overview

The Tennessee Titans beat the Kansas City Chiefs in their season-opener at Arrowhead Stadium last year. Things were looking up. Then the rest of the season happened, and the Titans lost all but one of their final 15 games. Tennessee has head coach Ken Whisenhunt returning for his second year on the job, and it needs to see some improvement for him to keep it.

In fairness to Whisenhunt, Tennessee might have the least amount of talent in the NFL. On offense, the team is relying on a bevy of young players including rookies in quarterback Marcus Mariota and receiver Dorial Green-Beckham. Defensively, free-agent signing Brian Orakpo needs to be healthy for the unit to generate much of a rush.

Major Battle

The receivers are all major question marks outside of Kendall Wright. With Nate Washington moving on this offseason, the Titans have a collection of young guns and veterans with Justin Hunter, Hakeem Nicks and Green-Beckham. Hunter was recently charged with assault, so he could be gone before camp even opens. This will be a fun battle to watch.

Expectations

Hope that Mariota signs, gets into camp on time, and proves that he was worthy of the second-overall pick. Mariota is the massive ray of hope for an otherwise uninspiring roster. The Titans have not had a franchise quarterback since Steve McNair in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. If Mariota becomes that, the season is an unqualified success regardless of record.
