Overview

After going through a 4-12 campaign and missing the postseason for the fourth consecutive season, the New York Jets decided to move on from head coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik. Owner Woody Johnson then inked Todd Bowles and Mike Maccagnan to fill those roles, respectively, preceding a very busy offseason.

Maccagnan made a pair of high-profile deals, acquiring veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick from the Houston Texans before getting Brandon Marshall from the Chicago Bears for a sixth-round selection. In free agency, the Jets remade their secondary with a trio of corners in Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie and Buster Skrine.

Major Battle

This is another quarterback battle. Unlike Buffalo, this is a two-man race between Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith. Smith has failed to become what many believed he could be over his first two years in the league, but time remains on his side. Fitzpatrick is not getting any better, but is a veteran who can win a ballgame every now and then. If Smith wins the job, Jets fans should feel good.

Expectations

After going 4-12, the hope is a return to respectability. The Jets are likely not going to win 10 games with that duo competing at quarterback. The only realistic hope of making the playoffs is getting points on defense and special teams, while consistently putting the offense in great field position. The roster is very good outside of behind center, which unfortunately is crippling.
